ACT Bandage™ 10 cm – Active Compression Bandage with Wound Packing Module
ACT Bandage™ 10 cm is a modern, new-generation compression bandage designed for the control of massive bleeding, irregular wounds, and trauma where effective superficial compression is required. It combines classic mechanical compression with active compression technology, a segmented absorbent and compression pad, and an integrated wound packing module.
The design is developed for real operational conditions where time, stress, and limited visibility directly affect the effectiveness of hemorrhage control.
International Patent Pending – PCT/PL2025/050060
ACT – Active Compression Treatment
ACT stands for Active Compression Treatment – an active compression system developed to support hemorrhage control in real-world conditions.
Unlike traditional bandages with a passive absorbent pad and point pressure, ACT Bandage™ uses:
- immediate mechanical compression
- active compression that increases over time
- segmented absorbent and compression pad
- integrated wound packing module
The name ACT also serves as an operational signal – ACT! In critical situations, speed of reaction is more important than ideal working conditions.
A solution developed in Poland for real-world conditions
ACT Bandage™ was developed at the Medical University of Lodz in cooperation with JB Tacticals, combining:
- emergency medicine
- field experience
- medical education
- functional engineering
The author of the solution is Filip Jaśkiewicz, MD, PhD – a paramedic with 18 years of experience in pre-hospital emergency care and tactical medicine.
ACT Bandage™ is not a laboratory concept for ideal conditions. It was created as a response to problems observed in real rescue operations and combat medicine.
New architecture for hemorrhage control
Traditional compression bandages typically use a soft absorbent pad and an external point pressure element. ACT Bandage™ uses a segmented absorbent-compression pad that creates broad mechanical pressure from the first turn of the bandage.
Upon contact with blood, the compression elements expand in volume, helping to maintain and increase pressure over time.
What does the 10 cm version provide?
- Compact size for IFAK, EDC, and rescue kits
- 10 × 13 cm pad with 4 active compression inserts
- Mechanical compression from the first turn of the wrap
- Multi-point pressure distribution across the entire pad surface
- Increasing compression upon contact with fluids
- Support for irregular and multi-point injuries
Segmented absorbent and compression system
ACT Bandage™ uses a segmented active insert design that improves the flexibility of the entire working surface and allows the bandage to be partially molded during application.
This is especially important for:
- irregular injuries
- multi-point injuries
- transition points
- groin area
- armpits
- neck area
Designed for performance under pressure
ACT Bandage™ is created for real rescue situations with:
- limited visibility
- time pressure
- unusual injuries
- work in motion
- high stress
- limited ability to accurately assess the wound
The bandage's design reduces the number of decisions required and helps mitigate the risk of user error.
Fast application and stabilization
ACT Bandage™ utilizes several elements that facilitate application:
- Starting loop – helps initiate application and stabilizes the first turn of the wrap
- Stabilization system – keeps the bandage around the wound
- Additional pressure option – the wound packing module can be used for extra compression
- Velcro system – gradually increases the compression force
- Large Velcro closure – for secure fixation
- Safety buckle – for additional stabilization
Integrated Wound Packing Module
ACT Bandage™ includes an integrated wound packing module that allows for rapid packing of deep wounds without additional components.
The segmented module's structure helps to:
- fill penetrating wounds
- perform mechanical tamponade
- adapt to irregular injuries
- increase the contact surface in the wound
The module can also be used as an additional point compression element.
Active compression in action
Active compression inserts gradually increase in volume upon contact with blood, helping to maintain mechanical pressure and improve the effectiveness of tamponade.
Compliance with TCCC / MARCH approach
The ACT Bandage™ design adheres to the MARCH and TCCC logic, where the priority is:
- rapid control of massive bleeding
- minimal number of decisions
- immediate continuation of action in high-stress situations
